Week of 1/30/12-2/3/12

Wow! Catholic Schools Week is already here! We have PLENTY of fun and enriching activities planned this week to celebrate the “FAITH, ACADEMICS, & SERVICE” at Good Shepherd. We, along with over 7,800 Catholic schools, unite in recognition and appreciation of the Christ-centered excellence we strive for.  Among the activities planned this week, will be a visit from the Beverly Hills Mayor and the K-9 group from the Police Department. We also will be celebrating Mass on Wednesday at 11am in O’Ryan Hall. 5th grade will be leading this Mass. This week serves not only as time of bliss and jubilation, but as an ever-present reminder of thanksgiving for all of God’s blessings.

This week, Religion 7 will continue to focus on how the people of God make up the Church. Religion 6 will culminate our chapter on the Covenant at Sinai. Math 8/7 will focus on reviewing for Exam 9 and have our first test of the Quarter 3 on Thursday. Spanish K-2 will continue to focus on writing the days of the week. Spanish 3-5 will focus on definite and indefinite articles as they pertain to Unit 2 vocabulary. Spanish 6-8 will continue to focus on sentence structure as it pertains to class subjects. 

Homework:

Religion 6 & 7: Review class material and re-read at home

Math 8/7: Study for Exam 9 on Friday

Spanish: Study and complete any unfinished classwork

Week of 1/23/12-1/27/12

Welcome to 3rd Quarter! With this week comes the opportunity to grow and improve to be the best student you can be! All are welcome to celebrate the conversion of St. Paul at Mass with us on Wednesday, 1/25/12 at 10:15am. This Mass will be led by the 7th grade. This Thursday, the entire school will learn more about the wonderful world of science during the Science Fair! This event will begin for all at 10am and conclude at 2:50pm. All are strongly encouraged to attend and participate during Mass at Good Shepherd Church this Sunday in support of Catholic Schools Week. Next week, we will have a wide variety of fun activities to recognize our Catholic schools and how they build a strong foundation of “FAITH, ACADEMICS, and SERVICE” within the hearts, minds, souls of our students.

This week, Religion 7 will focus on how the people of God make up the Church. Religion 6 will focus on the Covenant at Sinai. Math 8/7 will focus on adding mixed measures, unit multipliers, creating graphs and reviewing for Exam 9. Spanish K-2 will continue to focus on writing the days of the week. Spanish 3 & 5 will focus on definite and indefinite articles as they pertain to Unit 2 vocabulary. Spanish 6 will continue to focus on sentence structure as it pertains to class subjects. (Spanish 4, 7 & 8 are cancelled due to the Science Fair)

Week of 1/17/12-1/20/12

I hope everyone enjoyed the 3-day MLK weekend! Please make sure all work is turned in and completed to the best of your ability as this Friday marks the end of 2nd Quarter. For all those interested in Irish dancing, practices start on Monday. All are welcome to our School Mass celebrating the conversion of St. Paul next Wednesday, 1/25/12 at 10:15am in O’Ryan Hall. This Mass will be led by the 7th grade.

This week in Religion 7, we will be learning about the Letter to the Romans and we will be having test on that material on Friday. In Religion 6, we will conclude our unit on the 10 Commandments and fulfillment. In Math 8/7, we will learn about unit price/rates/sales tax, powers of 10, and fraction/decimal/percent equivalents. Spanish K-2 will focus on writing the days of the week. Spanish 3 & 4 will learn about the differences between feminine and masculine nouns and how to use them correctly. Spanish 7 & 8 will continue to focus on classroom vocabulary and phrase usage.

Homework:

Religion 7: Catholic research (due Wednesday) & study for Friday’s exam (journals will be checked this week)

Religion 6: Review 10 Commandments & complete KWL chart (journals will be checked this week)

Math 8/7: Bring back signed/corrected test & complete lessons 46-48

Spanish 3-8: Study and complete any unfinished classwork (journals will be checked this week)

Week of 1/9/12-1/13/12

I hope everyone is having a fabulous week! Reminders: We will have no school on Monday 1/16/12 in recognition of MLK. Please make sure you are turning in all work to the best of your ability as the 2nd quarter now ends on Friday, 1/20/12. Our next school Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, 1/25/12 at 10:15am. This Mass will be led by the 7th grade.

This week in Religion 7, we will continue to focus on the Gospel of John and have an assessment of the material on Thursday. In Religion 6, we will focus on the 10 Commandments as experienced in the Old Testament. In Math 8/7, we will focus on dividing with remainders, fractions, decimals, and percents and have Exam 8 on Friday. Spanish K-2 will continue to focus on writing numbers in Spanish from 1-20. Spanish 3-5 will continue “Unidad 2” on colors, shapes, animals. Spanish 6-8 will focus on academic subjects and Spanish classroom language and phrases.
